THE BEAUTY COUNCIL June 22, 2020
As of today, June 22, 2020 the Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services have not responded to our proposals to speak with regards to licensing requirements for the Esthetic and Nail service industries in the Province of Ontario.

Furthermore, today the Premier has announced that Toronto and other COVID-19 hot zones such as Mississauga and Brampton can move into Stage 2 of Ontario’s re-opening plan. Not only are thousands of Beauty Professionals untrained and unlicensed putting the public at serious risks in a general setting, during this Pandemic, the risks are even higher without full mandates on Beauty education.

We are disappointed that our voices have gone without being responded to. The Beauty Council is committed to seeing change and we will continue pushing forward until the Province of Ontario makes Beauty Education (facilitated by Registered and Approved Colleges), mandatory before an Individual can provide Beauty Services to the Public.

THE BEAUTY COUNCIL
In response to the growing concern of self taught Beauty Professionals, unofficial education credentials circulating the industry as well as the lack of regulations and education requirements of Beauty Professionals, The Beauty Council, specifically for Ontario and Eastern Provinces has now been formed.

While Hair Dressing (Cutting and Coloring) is Government regulated in terms of Education, Examination and Work Experience, for far too long, many Service Providers of Esthetics, Nails, Makeup, Lash and Laser services are operating either as self taught or with certification from unapproved Individuals or Organizations. This not only puts the Public at risk during the service being provided, but also takes away opportunity from Professionals who have successfully completing formal Education at Registered and Approved Beauty Colleges and Institutes.

Approved Private Career Colleges are heavily regulated in all aspects including Bonds and Financial Securities, Program Development Requirements and Assessments, Insurances, Commercial Space investments including permits and construction, Fire Inspections, ongoing Content updates, Accounting and Audited Financial Costs, Payroll of Qualified Instructors and Staff, Application as well as Renewal Fees and more, yet unofficially, Individuals are permitted to run classes from their basements or hourly rental spaces without consequence or penalty.

2020 will be the beginning of much needed attention and change.
